Admissions interviews are conversations, not examinations. Preparation should make a student more themselves, not less.
Most schools interview to understand a student's curiosity, resilience and readiness for community living. Rehearsed answers work against all three.
What schools are listening for
Specificity. A student who can describe one book, one project or one difficulty honestly gives an admissions officer far more than a student with a polished summary of achievements.
Practical preparation
Test the technology in advance for online interviews. Choose a quiet room with a plain background. Have two or three genuine questions ready about daily life at the school.
For parents
Where parents join the conversation, it helps to let the student answer first and to be candid about any support the student has needed. Schools respond well to accuracy.
