A short, practical list of the questions that separate a good school from the right school for your child.
Switzerland has an unusual density of international schools within a few hours of one another, and they differ far more than their brochures suggest. These questions help families move past general impressions.
About the student's day
Who is responsible for your child in the evening? How is homework supervised? What happens if a student is struggling in week three rather than at the end of term?
About academics
Which pathway does the school genuinely specialise in? Many schools offer several, but each usually has one it runs best. Ask how many students took each route last year.
About the community
How many nationalities are represented, and how many students share the most common one? A school where forty per cent of students share a first language will feel different from one where no group dominates.
About the practical realities
Guardianship, travel at exeat weekends, additional costs, and visa timelines are all easier to plan a year in advance than a month before arrival.
