Three respected routes with different shapes. Which one suits a student depends on breadth, specialisation and where they intend to study next.
The choice of qualification shapes a student's final two or three years more than the choice of campus does.
Breadth versus depth
The IB Diploma keeps six subject groups in play and adds an extended essay and theory of knowledge. A-Levels narrow to three or four subjects studied deeply. The Swiss Matura sits closer to the IB in breadth and carries direct recognition at Swiss universities.
Matching the qualification to the student
A student with clear strengths in two or three subjects and a firm subject choice for university often thrives with A-Levels. A student who is strong across the board, or undecided, usually benefits from the IB's structure.
Recognition abroad
All three are widely recognised, but the administrative details differ by country. Confirm entry requirements with the specific universities under consideration rather than relying on general guidance.
